Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) recognises body movement as an implicit and expressive instrument of communication and expression. The focus on the moving body and non-verbal phenomena means that DMP can be beneficial for relational and developmental issues arising from early infancy to adulthood. (ADMP UK)
As trained Dance Movement Psychotherapists with performance backgrounds we share a common understanding of the value of the arts as a therapeutic intervention. Working from a person centred humanistic approach we support clients to gain insights and awareness to promote beneficial lifestyle changes which precipitate an increase in confidence, self-esteem and social interaction.
By integrating physicality, the use of symbolism, metaphor and narrative, within a creative process, and using the body as an expressive tool, clients can access thoughts and feelings in a safe environment.
Sessions may include use of props and other art mediums such as music, clay work, art , drama, sand tray or creative writing.
